Multimedia:Mighty Warriors- Success without motivation

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture today came face to face with reality when their familiarization tour to the Zifa House and Village turned out to be Mighty Warriors grievance show after it imaged that the women have not been paid their allowances since last year. The team which is still camped at Zifa Village since their return from a successful tour in Zambia said they only received fifty dollars which they said was not enough.

“When we leave home we are expected to bring something  but all we are getting are fake promises from Zifa, we have been playing just for the love of the game and hoping that they will at least respect us but it seems we are being taken for granted” said one player on condition of anonymity.

The players looked dejected and they said apart from the issue of allowances they only met the Zifa officials at a dinner hosted by the Ministry of Sports and they have not heard from the officials.

“We are still here and we were told to go empty handed today but we refused because we heard the Parliament officials were coming and can you imagine after all the successes we are being treated like this” said the player.

“They say from the matches against Tanzania, Cameroon and Zambia they have not been paid basically, we note that they are not happy in terms of allowances which are not forthcoming so as the Portfolio Committee on sport we want to emphasize very strongly on Zifa leadership to make sure that they come to these Warriors’ rescue in terms of finding allowances”

“They tell us they have only been given $50 but look they are doing the nation proud by winning and they are portraying a good image of the country in terms of sport” said Hon. Mandipaka
