Increasing access to HIV testing services is vital in preventing further transmission of the virus among young people, a National Aids Council (NAC) official has said.

This was revealed by the National AIDS Council Young People’s Network Youth intern, Thabiso Sibanda during a Global AIDS Progress Report and post ICASA meeting, in Harare.
Sibanda said most of the young people are reluctant to get tested for HIV and there is need for stakeholders to make use of mobile and community testing initiatives.
“Bringing HIV testing and counselling services in communities can be a successful way of reaching young people who are less likely to voluntarily visit a static testing centre” said Sibanda.
Meanwhile Sibanda reiterated the need to meaningfully involve young people in the designing of their HIV and sexual reproductive health programmes.
“Young people representing their peers in all programming processes will help in addressing the needs of young people.” added Sibanda.
She added that young people have the potential to be great peer educators, and to help in the design of HIV-related services and programmes.
“Involvement of young people in development processes of Sexual Reproductive Health, HIV and AIDS interventions tailored for them creates an environment that is conducive for sustainable, high impact and low cost interventions” said Sibanda.
