A 31 year old man was dragged to court yesterday after being accused of stealing a pocket of potatoes from a colleague.

Alfred Chikono, who resides in Kambuzuma section 3, appeared before Harare magistrate court facing allegations of stealing a pocket of potatoes belonging to Shuvai Zenda.

The court heard that, on the 16th of February this year, Chikono sneaked into a room where Zenda stores her wares overnight. The accused is believed to have unlocked the door to the storeroom since he has access to the room.

Zenda told the court that Chikono usually asks to store his wares in the storeroom and  has access to the room.

She added that the morning her potatoes went missing she found Chikoro’s bag in the room yet he had not left it there.

“I knock off at 6pm everyday and  I keep the things I use for my  fresh chips business in the storeroom. On the day in question I left my potatoes together with other things in the room. The   following day I could not see the pocket of potatoes. Surprisingly I found his bag inside,” said the complainant.

The accused denied the charges saying he had no keys to the room hence there was no way he could have stolen the potatoes. He indicated that there are other people who have the keys but were not accused.
