Independent legislator for Norton constituency, Temba Mliswa has called for the dismissal of Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga for failing to command his subordinates.
Speaking during a parliament sitting the firebrand legislator questioned the reluctance by police when it comes to serious cases.
“The police has got the manpower to investigate anybody at any time when they feel like it. When it is time to arrest us they have the resources. When it is time to now go for a serious case which is important for the country and is internationally damaging the country’s reputation they then say it will take time.
“When are we going to have an efficient police? If the police is not efficient the Commissioner General must go because he commands them. We need people in office who are able to deliver not just patronize and appease. What are they doing to remove the police CG whose members cannot investigate and resolve cases?” said Mliswa
In his response Home Affairs deputy minister Michael Madiro said police were investigating the cited matters while calling on the public to help with any leads.
“This is an important issue pertaining to the protection and sanctity of life of Zimbabweans. Investigations are under way. It is critical that police do extensive investigations. These are still mere allegations until police establish what happened. Police are doing their job and the nation will be informed. Our police is efficient and is also one of the best in the world,” he said.
Mliswa’s question comes in the wake of alleged abduction and torture of three MDC youth assembly who are currently admitted at a local private hospital.
