Zimtrade encourages Zim-Namibia trade

Zimtrade says local companies should capitalise on the existing bilateral trade agreements with Namibia to tap into the lucrative opportunities in various economic sectors.

The call comes ahead of the release of market findings in that country which Zimtrade carried out for the benefit of local firms.

Zimtrade chief executive officer Sithembile Pilime says there are lucrative opportunities which the survey identified that require the participation of the local business community.

“The survey identified opportunities for local products and services in sectors such as building and construction, pharmaceuticals, leather and leather related products and human capital skills as well as fast moving consumer goods among others,” she said.

Last year, Namibia imported products worth 7.4 billion dollars with Zimbabwe supplying only 17.7 million dollars worth of products, hence the need to increase exports to Namibia for the benefit of the local economy, says Ms Pilime.

She added, “We are exporting pharmaceutical products, iron and steel products and agricultural products but looking at the import bill of Namibia there is scope of doing better.”

Zimtrade has embarked on market research for Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa, while also taking companies to these trade missions to explore existing opportunities.
