Women, Wine, Words Goes Big

Following the successful hosting of the second edition of Women Wine and Words festival which ran between 24 and 26 October in the capital, organisers of the event have expressed ambition to go big and match the country’s biggest arts festival the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA).

Having already marked some positive strides by moving from a one-day event last year to a three-day festival this year, the organisers are ecstatic about their success in bringing together all components of art, that is music, poetry and theatrical performances.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Women Wine and Words project manager, Annah Moziweya was happy with the clear growth of the festival and how they have accommodated the whole of Africa.

“I am happy with the turn out which is a clear indication that we are growing, last year it was more of a Zimbabwean thing but this year we really tried to accommodate the whole of Africa hosting 52 countries,” said Moziweya.

She also expressed their target to surpass HIFA.

“We know there has never been a women’s festival bringing all components of arts together from poetry to music and film so the ultimate goal, say, in four to five years time run longer and as big as HIFA,” she said.
