The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has condemned acts of violence that characterized most of the Castle Lager midweek fixtures that were played around the country yesterday.
In a press statement released yesterday evening, the football governing body expressed concern over acts of violence that marred week 27 mid-week fixtures with particular mention, the three matches that involved run away log leaders Caps United against Chicken at Barbourfields in Bulawayo, the Dynamos versus FC Platinum match at Rufaro in Harare as well as the ZPC Kariba and Highlanders match at Nyamhunga in Kariba.
The three matches had some acts violence which caused unbearable stoppages to the matches, bringing the beautiful game of football into disrepute.
“The Premier Soccer League is appalled by skirmishes and match disturbances that took place during Castle Lager PSL Match day 27 fixtures played on Wednesday 23 October 2019. PSL strongly condemns this unacceptable behaviour witnessed at Rufaro during a match between Dynamos FC v FC Platinum, ZPC Kariba v Highlanders at Nyamhunga Stadium and Chicken Inn v Caps United FC at Barbourfields Stadium.
“Hooliganism has no place in football and as such, we urge football fans, players and administrators to respect the referee’s decision, to abide by the rules and regulations of the competition and to act in a responsible manner.
“We further advise all stakeholders to know, understand and respect the 17 FIFA Laws of the game,” read part of the statement.
However, PSL went on to challenge the Zifa Referees Committee to look at the allegations of poor officiating by local referees.
“We call upon the Zifa Referees Committee to investigate clubs’ complaints of poor officiating,” read the statement.
The league is currently waiting for match reports from all parties such that action can be taken and culprits be brought to book.
