Identity Scoops Chibuku Road To Fame Grand Prize

Eight-member Afro fusion band Identity put up a world class performance to scoop this year’s edition of the Chibuku Road to Fame 2019 grand prize at Glamis Arena in the capital on Saturday.

For their hard work and crowd revelling performance, Identity walked away with a prize money of $20 000 plus a recording contract. Hot on their heels was yet another Afro fusion group Jesa, based in Harare, who came second, walking away $15 000 richer. ON third position was Dengedza Express from Matabeleleand South who went away with a $10 000 prize money check.

Speaking to the media just after the presentation of prizes, Identity group founder Munashe Zhira he was happy with the lifetime achievement that his  group has done so far.

“I am so happy that I do even know how to expresss my happiness. Today I am the happiest man on planet earth. I cant believe we have achieved this as a group, winning so muvcch in the process,” said Zhira.

He added, “I think this happened this was because we have been working together as a group, we did whatever we were supposed to do to outdo our competitors. We also perfected some of the things during our practices.”

However, Zhira said this was a dream come true for him and the entire team before giving a brief history about the musical group.

“This indeed is a dream come true for me and the entire team. We formed this group in 2016 and went on to participate at the Chibuku Road to Fame provincial competitions in 2017 where we came third. IN 2018, we moved a ladder up, coming second and the transition has been going on as we have finally made it this year, winning the big one,” said Zhira.

Chibuku Road to Fame has been a platform for a number of upcoming artists and new musical groups to showcase their talents. The programme, bankrolled by Zimbabwe’s leading brewers, Delta Beverages through their Chibuku brand has been running for close to 18 years now. A number of renowned artists have made it in life having started the Road to fame way.
