Renowned film director Davies Guzha and his three colleagues appeared in court today for allegedly screening a film that had not been approved by the Censorship Board.

The film, Lord of Kush, was screened last week Friday at the Theatre in The Park in Harare.

Guzha together with manager Peter Churu, the film’s producer Tendai Maduwa and filmmaker Kuda Bryan Bwititi were picked by officers from the Police Law and Order Section on Saturday morning.

The four, represented by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)’s Moses Nkomo and Tinomuda Shoko told the court that their rights were violated by not being told the reason for their arrest.

They are being charged with contravening provisions of the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act.

However, Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko released the four on ZWL$200 bail each with conditions that they should reside at the given addresses until the matter is finalized.

The matter was rolled over to 29 August 2019 for routine remand.
