The Zanu-PF Youth League has vowed to continue naming and shaming corrupt individuals within the ruling party, government and the private sector, amid allegations that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s close allies are using his name to commit crimes.
The youth league last month released a list of alleged corrupt officials which sent tongue waging across the country as it featured prominent individuals including Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, John Mangudya, Zimbabwe Miners Federation President, Henrietta Rushwaya, former cabinet minister Obert Mpofu among others.
At a recent rally in Wedza, the ruling party’s representative in the House of Assembly for Wedza South, Tinoda Machakaire, whose name made it on the youth league list said Mnangagwa should be wary of people who are close to him as they are the ones who are corrupt and holding the party at ransom.
“The president has people he moves around with but they are stealing. They are the ones who are causing all this suffering.
“If I’m not clean then I do not deserve to be close to the president. If someone is corrupt, that person should clear their name by showing evidence. I was fingered in this corruption list but I declared my paperwork and now I have been cleared,” said Machakaire, who was accompanied by Zanu-PF youth league Political Commissar, Godfrey Tsenengamu.
He said he is in support of Mnangagwa’s drive to end corruption and stir the country in the right direction.
Mnangagwa recently swore in an eight-member Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) team that is expected to deal with rampant corrupt activities in the country.
Although Mnangagwa has, on numerous occasions, threatened to deal decisively with corrupt officials, little has been done to show his seriousness as most allegedly corrupt high ranking officials have not been probed.
Tsenengamu said lawsuits and threats will not stop Zanu-PF youth league from naming and shaming corrupt individuals while hailing Machakaire for coming clean.
“We will not be stopped by threats or lawsuits because we want President Emmerson Mnangagwa to achieve his vision to have a free corruption country,” he said
Chief Ruzane bemoaned corrupt activities saying it’s the ordinary people who will feel the pinch.
“Thank you for coming to clarify the issue. We are all relieved because such allegations stall progress. I want you to know that our MP has tried to come with programmes that empower our communities. Our cry is on the prices and hunger,” he said.
