Former Hurungwe West legislator, Themba Mliswa yesterday urged government to uphold rule of law saying that the abduction of Itai Dzamara is a clear breach of the rule of law.
Mliswa was speaking at the launch of the Itai Dzamara Trust – a trust which seeks to provide psychosocial, spiritual support as well as resources to victims of human rights violations .
“Go back to rule of law,” he challenged government adding that without rule of law on the agenda people will continue disappearing.
He challenged citizens to fight back and return rule of law which he says was robbed by the Zanu PF led government.
“We need to fight and make sure that rule of law is returned,” he said.
Bishop Ancelimo Magaya revealed that they will work tirelessly to fight human rights abuses.
“We are synergistically collaborating with other forces fighting for human rights. People should be free after speaking and feel secure, this is what the constitution stipulates.
“Never again should Zimbabweans allow a situation where such an unfortunate development happens. People remain silent as though they do not have mouths and remain inactive as though they do not have spines,” he said.
He added that: “People should be able to stand at the centre of their historical development to define their own destiny.”
Church leader, Bishop Magaya also said the trust will mobilise forces to react to human rights abuses.
“We will not particularly look at the Dzamara family but the Dzamara family is one of the families that have been disadvantaged. There are so many families that have been disadvantaged and we want to give psychosocial support as well as resources,” he said
The trust was named after Itai Dzamara whom bishop Magaya said championed and stood firmly on what he believed.
MDC-T Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora applauded the trust saying it seeks to fight human rights abuses.
“We totally support the initiative because it seeks to protect people against abuse. We are in no doubt that Itai was abducted by state agencies,” he said.
Mwonzora also questioned President Mugabe’s silence on the disappearance of Itai Dzamara.
Why has Mugabe remained mum on the Dzamara Issue? We are saddened that after working so hard for a new constitution, government has not shown any respect of this constitution,” said Mwonzora.
