The Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) has blamed the current economic situation characterized by hyper inflation and ever escalating prices of basic commodities on election rigging which they claim was done during the July 31 harmonized election adding that the results are not reflective of the people’s will.
The Nelson Chamisa-led opposition party has blamed the ruling ZANU PF party for all the economic challenges which the country is facing now, accusing it of rigging the last year’s general elections disrespecting the will of the people.
“The current crisis is a reflection of election results which are not reflective of the people’s will. President Mbeki makes that point quiet clearly,” reads the statement sent to the media by the party.
Chamisa has been claiming that he won the presidential election by 2.2 million votes and that ZANU PF rigged its way to put President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the office.
The main opposition party was responding to former South Africa President Thabo Mbeki’s interview on South African Broadcasting Cooperation (SABC) before one of the state owned local papers later ran a story on the good side of President Mnangagwa.
The MDC said that the ruling party, through the the national newspaper (name supplied) is only trying to spin Mbeki’s statement to seem as if Mbeki is also supporting the notion that Mnangagwa won the election.
However, MDC think that Mbeki made it clear during the interview with SABC that the national crisis can only be cured by a national dialogue and must not do this without Chamisa in the picture.
“Zanu PF’s intention to spin remarks by President Mbeki are baseless and an act of desperation to find endorsement where none exists. In essence President Mbeki recognizes that a win which Mnangagwa claims to have obtained has failed to create sufficient consensus and should therefore be cured by a national dialogue. He also recognizes that the reservations the MDC has in the ongoing dialogue must be attended to,” read the statement.
The statement said the point of departure is that the basis of Dialogue is that there was Electoral fraud.
