Zimbabwe To Host Afro Basketball Qualifiers

Zimbabwe has been granted the rights to host the 2019 Afro Basketball qualifiers slated for June 2 to 8 at Harare City Sports Centre.

A representative from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has conformed the event before adding that the country was now more that ready to host the event.

A number of countries have already conformed their participation, among them Angola (men and women), Mozambique men, Zambia men and Malawi men and women.

Speaking to 263Chat, LOC Media Liaison personnel Carlos Munda said the event was very much important for Zimbabwe as country.

“Afro basketball is a very important event for us as country. This will help us raise our basketball standard,” said Munda.

He added, “This time we have a good chance to qualify. What we need to do is to win our home and away fixtures in the ladies category. Its the men’s category that Zimbabwe has a mountain to climb. Our men have to beat Mozambique and become second favourites and hope that Angola beat Mozambique as well. However, the African Champions will be no pushovers.”

Zimbabwe last qualified for the bi-annual event when they took part in the event that was held in Tunisia in 2014.
