A prosecutor with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is under fire after he allegedly released the passport of former cabinet Minister, Ignatius Chombo.
Tapiwa Kasame was today hauled before the magistrate’s court on allegations of criminal abuse of office as a public officer after he connived to nicedomously release the travelling document which had been kept by the courts.
Provincial Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti released him on $150 bail coupled with reporting conditions.
Allegations against Kasame are emanating from a court session on May 10 this year, when Chombo, who is facing criminal abuse of office and fraud applied for the release of his passport and he consented to it being released.
Prosecutor Moses Mapanga alleges that Chombo was appearing in court 6 at Harare Magistrates’ Courts for routine remand when he made an application for the temporal release of his passport on a record which was being handled by Kasame.
Despite the fact that Kasame knew that Chombo’s passport was being held in respect of the other two records which the accused was not handling, he acted contrary and inconsistent to his duties by consenting to the release of the passport showing favour to Chombo.
