Canadian Embassy Donates Sanitary Wear To Epworth Adolescents s

The Canadian Embassy through Shamwari YeManasikana (SYS) has donated sanitary wear to the young girls in the impoverished community of Epworth in an effort to promote safe menstrual health.

The donation was handed over to girls from six schools and is part of a drive by the Canadian Ambassador, René Cremonese, to meet the needs of girls and women in society whilst supporting the local organisations.

Loraine Mawoyo, an official from SYS, said the organisation will continue to call for the free distribution of sanitary ware since mensuration is a natural phenomenon.

“I feel it might not be by choice but we have some girls who don’t have access to the sanitary ware yet they need it. The economic situations force them to use cloths yet that ain’t hygienic at all,” said Mawoyo.

Shamwari Yemwanasikana (SYS) is a community-based organisation that seeks to promote the rights and empowerment of the girl child in the home, school and community setup.

The organisation seeks to address these concerns and protect the girl child from anything that has the potential to destroy her dreams, hopes and full development.
