The Zimbabwe National Social Security Authority (NSSA) is struggling to release the forensic audit report amid speculations that the senior citizens’ savings have been eroded by corruption involving “unnamed” political big wigs in government, Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has said.
Speaking at the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) Public Finance Management Reform Indaba in the capital yesterday, Mliswa told delegates that he received a tip off from some members of the public indicating that corruption was reigning supreme at NSSA leaving pensioners who are old people at most earning a meager RTGS$60 per month.
“You got the NSSA report which I have been pushing for a long time. And the reason why I am pushing for it is there are big names involved. I will not beat about the bush there are institutions that were given money by NSSA, the pensioner’s funds. If you follow where that money went to, you be shocked to find out that it went into the bosses’ accounts under the guise of purchasing fertilizer.
“I went to the auditor general to ask when the forensic audit report is coming out, I also wrote to the President after receiving information from people and he said there be a forensic report but that report cannot be released. Let that forensic audit report be released and you will now underhand dealings have fleeced the pensioners’ welfares,” Mliswa said.
When reached for comment NSSA Marketing and Communications Executive, Tendai Mutseyekwa did not deny the forensic audit having been carried out but directed all questions to the Minister of Public Service,Labour and Social Welfare Dr Sekai Nzenza saying she is the best placed person to comment on the report.
“I can’t speak about that because we haven’t seen it, if you want to find out about that report you speak to the minister responsible because the directive was from the minister and the report is there. As NSSA I cannot speak about that,” he said.
However, efforts to get a comment from Dr Nzenza’s office were fruitless as her mobile went unanswered.
Mliswa delivered a dossier to President Mnangagwa on the alleged corruption at NSSA in which he claimed that the social security institution was captured by a mafia-like cabal where senior government officials and business tycoons have been fingered.
