Banda spot kick rescues Buffaloes

…as officials blame players for poor run

MUTARE- Some officials have laid blame on ungrateful players among the ranks of struggling army side for its poor performances at home.

Buffaloes however managed to snatch a point from the jaws of defeat when pencil slimmed winger Farai Banda’s penalty saw them share spoils with whipping boys WhaWha in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Ascot.

Farai Banda’s third goal of the season for Buffaloes cancelled Sylvester Nhamo’s strike to ensure a share of the spoils.

The result means the prison wardens remain stuck in the murky waters of relegation with only 15 points, while the army side have lifted themselves from the danger zone with that point gained.

However some Buffaloes officials have labeled part of their squad as ungrateful of the efforts being put by management to ensure that they fulfill away fixtures.

The well placed official who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that management was fighting tooth and nail to ensure the team fulfilled its expensive away fixtures.

“There are some players who are just ungrateful in the team yet we are struggling to make ends meet.

“We are borrowing just to fulfill our away fixtures and yet some players demand winning bonuses but we have done all we can in this difficult situation.

“We even struggled to ensure that some of these players are drafted into Zimbabwe National Army just so that they can have that cushion in case we don’t have a sponsor like the situation at the moment.

“We hope this situation will not demoralize them because we want to preserve our PSL status as a club. They should just focus on the game,” said the official.

These comments come in the backdrop of grumbling from some players who are accusing management of not being sincere in addressing their plight.

Buffaloes are currently without a sponsor and are sitting on position 13 on the log, having won just two games drawn 8 and lost seven to amass a paltry 14. There are only one point away from safety above fellow struggler Flame Lily.
