Castle Lager Premier Soccer League was full of mixed results as the much anticipated match of the weekend pitting perennial rivals Highlanders and Dynamos ended in a one all stalemate, while Triangle rise to the top log- table.
Highlanders were on top of their game during the first half but they failed to convert a series of chances they created as the partnership of Knox Mutizwa and Obadiah Tarumbwa kept tormenting DeMbare defence.
Bosso led in the first half through a 27th minute beautiful header by skipper Muthulisi Maposa, who was returning from injury, but did not finish the match after a tackle by Ocean Mushure.
Dynamos came back in the second half on fire and they equalised through a strike by Ocean Mushure during the early minutes of the second half.
A draw for Highlanders meant that for 18 matches and nine straight seasons they have failed to beat Dynamos in a league match, the last victory arrived at Barbourfields back in 2006 when they won their last league title.
With the draw, for ‘the Glamour Boys’ meant that they are stuck on the forth position on the log-standings, but now at par with third placed How Mine on 29 points after the gold miners lost 0 – 2 to Hwange.
Bosso are in ninth position on the log-table from 17 games and they have gone six games without a victory. Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu was disappointed with the result considering they dominated the first half.
“We did not stick to our formation in the second half and my combination of Knox Mutizwa and Tarumbwa should be ruthless and score goals. We had a strategy in the first half and had Dynamos where we wanted them, but we failed to beat them,” said Mafu.
On the other hand Dynamos coach David Mandigora was not pleased with his team’s first half performance as they spend the better part of the first half on the defensive side.
“We did not play well in the first half. In the second half we were more direct than in the first half when we were bit slow,” revealed Mandigora.
On Saturday saw Triangle rising on top of the log-table as they pilled more misery on newly appointed ZPC Kariba gaffer Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa who is yet to win, when they beat them 2 – 1 in their own backyard.
Kelvin Kaindu’s team are currently on first position with 32 points from 17 games and they have displaced Chicken Inn who are on second place with 31 points from similar number of games.
Flame Lily drew two all with fellow debutants Tsholotsho at Lafarge Stadium, while the Gweru derby failed to live up to its billing as the match pitting Chapungu and Whawha ended in a one all stalemate.
The battle of miners saw Hwange beating third place How Mine 2-0 at the Colliery and How Mine are still on the third place on the log-table with the same number points with Dynamos who are on 29 points.
Debutants Dongo Sawmills frustrated Chicken Inn at Vhengere Stadium when the Gamecocks were held to a one all draw that saw them dropping on the log-table.
Inform FC Platinum walloped struggling Mutare army based side Buffaloes 3 – 0 in their own back yard, while Harare City beat Caps United 1 – 0 at the National Sports Stadium.
