THE opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) National Youth Chairperson, Happymore Chidziva has threatened that streets will be their second home should President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration fail to heed to the demands of the opposition.
Addressing thousands of protesters who filled up Africa Unity Square in Harare yesterday, Chidziva said many demonstrations were coming as the opposition party continues piling pressure on the Zanu PF Government.
“I am happy that we have launched a program for demonstrations. We want Mnangagwa and his team to know that streets will be our second home until problems facing our country are addressed.”
Chidziva said former President Robert Mugabe and the incumbent Mnangagwa rose during their time to fight a system which undermined the black people’s rights and they were heard urging the young people across the divide to adopt the same spirit.
“Don’t be afraid. Don’t hesitate. When the signal comes rise and occupy the streets. It’s our time to define our future, to secure and defend our future,” he said.
MDC Women Assembly Secretary Lynette Karenyi accused Mnangagwa of mimicking his predecessor Robert Mugabe, charging that they have failed the people of Zimbabwe and should leave power to Chamisa.
“This government has failed to represent the interests of the people and they must go and leave office for the rightful people’s elected President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.”
Karenyi lamented the economic collapse which she said has deteriorated beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen.
