The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has dismissed attempts by the Zanu PF Youth League to discourage them to abandon their planned anti-government protest today saying they will proceed with their activity.
Addressing a press conference the party headquarters today, MDC Spokesperson, Jacob Mafume said the demonstration has been organized for every Zimbabwean hence the decision to do away with party regalia.
“Our organizing department and the party leadership has decided that it is not necessary at this juncture to have party regalia with our faces, all will be welcome and we will have a neutral color because this will all be done in peace. White is the color of peace. White is the color of love. White is the color that everybody there outline the route. The route to dialogue, the route to legitimacy.
“Accordingly we will be giving a petition to the speaker of parliament because it is the institution that receives petitions and the issue is to bring legitimacy,” Mafume said.
National Organizing Secretary, Amos Chibaya said they are on high alert against those bend on causing chaos or anything contrary to the agenda of the demonstration will be dealt with by the citizens themselves.
“We did receive reports that Zanu PF people who are coming from Uzumba but we have referred the matter to the police and they will deal with them because our demonstration is a peaceful one.
“We are not going to tolerate any violence. If there is anybody who is going to engage in violence our marshals will do what we call citizen arrest and make sure that everything is done in order,” Chibaya said.
