Government is optimistic the forthcoming Innovation Africa summit set for Wednesday to Friday this week will help to put Zimbabwe on the map as an education hub on the continent and globally.
Addressing the media in the capital last week, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Paul Mavima said the summit is coming at a time government is working towards the restoration of the country’s legitimate glory.
“The Innovation Africa Summit is a brand of the UK based African Brains Pvt Ltd and this year’s 8th edition is being hosted by Zimbabwe. Previous summits, over 3500 delegates from government and industry have resulted in over $470 million of investment into education and ICTs for education.
“This year’s summit is expected to attract over 500 participants.We are glad that the Summit here in Zimbabwe is taking place within the context of the second Republic,when government and the nation as a whole is working towards the restoration of our country to its legitimate glory.
“Our message to the delegates,especially the international ICT companies is that we are in a new dawn in Zimbabwe,we have the highest potential in Africa for a human capital pipeline that will justify the location of their headquarters for the African region here in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Mavima added that 31 international delegates,17 Ministers from African countries will grace the occasion.
“l am proud to inform the nation that preparations by the Inter-ministerial task force that was set are on course and 31 international delegates,17 Ministers from African Countries will grace the occasion.
“Over and above international companies such as Microsoft,Intel,J.P Inspiring Knowledge, Canon, Lenovo, Classera, Cambridge, HP and many others have confirmed their attendance.
“We are excited of the potential deals that will be worked out with these global giants as we seek to transform our education system in line with 21st Century and 4th Industrial Revolution requirements.
“We are looking forward to a productive 2018 innovation Africa Summit that is responsive to the needs of our nation and hub that will help to put Zimbabwe on the map as an education hub on the continent and globally,” added Mavima.
