Former Zanu PF Harare Youth League chairperson, Jim Kunaka has revealed intricate details on how Zanu PF party used youths disguised as police officers to attack the late Movement for Democratic Change leader, Morgan Tsvangirai and other civil society leaders during the Save Zimbabwe Campaign’s Zimbabwe Grounds rally March 2007.
Appearing before the Commission of Inquiry into the post-election violence, Kunaka said during his days in Zanu PF, he was instructed to do anything in defence of the revolution.
“In 2008 I was instructed to go and defend the revolution, and do anything, you know what happened, wonders happened. Zanu PF emerged as a winner in the end
“Tsvangirai was not beaten by ZRP in 2007, instead he was beaten by Zanu PF youth linchmob which was given police uniform.
“I am telling you this so that you know where violence track record is coming from,” said Kunaka.
He added that urged Motlanthe to abort his mission and save his reputation as he insisted the commission of inquiry is being used cover up for Zanu PF’s electoral defeat at the hands of the MDC in the July 30 harmonised elections.
“If you want to remain with dignity here in Africa, please do the perfect thing that even when pass on at some point I would sacrifice to sell my goat and come and attend your funeral in the event I don’t have money for air tickets,” added Kunaka.
He questioned the integrity of the commission singling out Professor Charity Manyeruke whom he said is the Zanu PF Secretary for Womens League who used to give him instructions on who to attack during their good days together.
“I used to take instructions from my commander (Manyeruke) so I will not answer any question from Charity Manyeruke
I’m surprised that you seated with Charity Manyeruke as one of the commissioners when she is one of the violence architecture in Zanu PF
“Taitombogara navo pasi Mai ava tichironga kuti torova sei vanhu veMDC (we used to sit down together with her, plotting how to attack MDC people)” said Kunaka.
Kunaka was invited to appear before the Kgalema Motlante led commission after he was cited together with MDC President and Deputy Chairperson, Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti and many others as the people behind the August 1 violence that left six people dead after soldiers fired live bullets on innocent civilians in the central business district of Harare.
