REWT Clears Air On Musarara Kimberly Process Trip

]Resource Exploitation Watch Trust (REWT) has cleared the air on social media misconceptions fueled by Farai Maguwu that its chairperson Mr Tafadzwa Musarara had gone to Brussels for the Kimberly Process Plenary representing the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ).

During the Kimberly Process Plenary last week, Maguwu posted on social media that one of the delegates representing Zimbabwe was Musarara of the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ).

But REWT Legal Advisor, Calvin Sengwe dismissed Maguwu’s statements as misleading saying Musarara had gone to Brussels in a different capacity.

Sengwe said REWT has been attending the Kimberly Process bi-annual meetings as observers since 2009.

“The social media post by Mr Farai Maguwu of Centre for Natural Resource Governance, that Mr Tafadzwa Musarara represented the milling industry at the Brussels Plenary are simply pre-school mischief and bent to project an image of impropriety.

“He did not only mislead the people but deliberately abused social media and twisted facts. Musarara has never benefited as an individual from the diamond sector but rather did a national service by lobbying for the lifting of sanctions on local diamond sales “,said Sengwe.

Musarara is a former ZMDC appointee and through REWT he has been advocating for the ban of sanctions on local diamonds.
