The Zimbabwe National Men’s soccer team, the Warriors, received cooking oil donation from ZimGold ahead of their delicate AFCON Qualifier tie with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tonight.
What started off as a social media joke for the Warriors, turned into reality as they were each, given a box of 12, two-liter cooking oil bottles, at the National Sports Stadium yesterday
A social media joke which circulated Saturday evening after the Warriors dispatched the Leopards 1-2 in their hunting ground in Kinshasa stated that the win was motivated by the promise that the team would be getting cooking oil which has become a scarce basic commodity since the country was hit by the panic buying madness.
“Some said the boys played well because they were promised cooking oil. Well, we heard the “jokes” and we’ve responded.
“Yesterday was something special as we presented the team with cooking oil, caps and T-shirts for making us proud. We could all use something to lift our spirits and the warriors certainly are giving us something to smile about. Today the DRC stand no chance.
“On behalf of the entire ZimGold family, we wish the warriors and the coaching staff the very best for today,” reads part of ZimGold statement.
The Warriors will need to beat the DRC to maintain a tight grip on the top of the group and could be one foot on the plane to Cameroon for the AFCON tournament next year.
