The University of Zimbabwe volleyball team pulled a championship performance collecting 11 out of a possible 12 points in the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) National League matches held over the weekend.

University of Zimbabwe Wolves were near perfect defeating CUT, Black Rhinos, NABA and Highlanders and now have an upper hand in the title race with a comfortable 3 point gap at the top.

Terrence Chapidzinga and veteran setter, Tazviona Zvirawa kept the Varsity team’s sight on the championship with inspirational performances.

Harare City also amassed a total of 11 points to keep the pressure on UZ Wolves and Support Unit who are on first and second respectively. City’s Wing Spikers Washington Kakuyu and Sibangani Kudzai were consistent this weekend for the Citizens.

The defending Champions Support Unit dropped 2 points this weekend as they lost to bitter rivals Black Rhinos by 3 sets to 2. They, however, dismissed CUT, Highlanders and NUST Vikings in straight sets. Injuries to Opposite Spikers Emarald Mushore, Charles Nyamasve, and Stallon Chizenda have not helped matters for the police side’s title defense.

Black Rhinos had a hectic weekend playing a total of 20 sets this weekend and acquiring 6 points out of the possible 12. Losses to City and UZ on Saturday put them out of the title fight with 9 points to play for.

NUST Vikings, CUT and Highlanders had a tough outing this weekend as they managed 3, 1 and 0 points respectively.
