Winky D Mesmerizes Mutare

A scintillating performance from Zimdancehall’s top chanter, Winky D born Wallace Chirumiko, over the weekend brought Mutare Central Business District to a stand still.

The gig, sponsored by Econet’s Kwese iflix 1 Million Dollar Promotion, saw scores of Mutare residents, who on a normal day would pay several bond notes to see the 35 year old performing, watch and enjoy his  presence at Meikles Park for free.

Winky D took to stage in front of a not so bumper crowd and quickly got himself into some spiritual mode, as he commenced his act with the popular track Gombwe, whipping his audience to clap hands for him so that he reaches ‘the supernatural levels’ when he got to the part that sings “Ndavakuda kusvika saka isai maoko.”

By the time he was done with Gombwe, the whole auditorium had their hands up and clapping in a traditional fashion with the once half filled Meikles Park now packed to the brim as Mutare exploded to the Gafa sound.

Energised by a receptive audience, Winky D churned out a hit infested playlist for over an hour while remaining consistent with the crispy clean vocals he set himself from the beginning.

The “Highway Code” hit-maker could not hide his joy and in return performed songs requested by his fans until the audience had enough, finally signing out with Hatiperekedzane.

Before the “Bigman, ” took to stage, another Zimdancehall sensation, Freeman had dished out a decent performance, tooled by an endearing stage chemistry between him and his flanker Daruler.

This alliance has proved to be an effective live performance tool for HKD Boss as his anchor, Daruler, has enabled him to deliver exceptionally well on collaborated songs like Nzenza even in the absence of the originator.

Though Freeman’s delivery was decent, it was Winky D’s charm that won the day, leaving a lasting impression on music fans who attended.
