A Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) employee, David Kachembere appeared before Harare Magistrate’s court today on charges of raping his 13-year-old-niece.
Circumstances surrounding the matter are that sometimes in July this year, Kachembere who resides in Epworth together with the complainant were alone since the accused’s wife had gone to attend a funeral.
It is the state’s case that around midnight, the complainant went to his uncle, the accused’s bedroom complaining of having nightmares.
She then took her blankets to sleep on the floor as suggested by the accused person.
When she had fallen asleep, Kachembere sneaked into the complainant’s blankets and forced himself into her.
The complainant felt the pain in her private parts and woke up only to see the accused person on top of her.
The court also heard that Kachembere threatened to chase the complainant away from his house together with her aunt, the accused’s wife if she reports him.
The matter only came to light on the 11th of September after the accused’s wife noticed that the complainant had become sexually active.
Meanwhile, the accused person pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Ropafadzo Botsh opposed bail urging the accused to approach the High Court.
The case was postponed to 4 October 2018, in remand.
