President Mnangagwa has sworn in a seven member probe team to investigate the killings that rocked Harare on August 1, a day after Zimbabwe’s harmonised elections .
The committee , which includes former South African president Kgalema Motlanthe and several lawyers, tasked to look into the disturbances early this month in Harare that led to the killing of six Zimbabweans by the Zimbabwe National Army, took their oaths before President Mnangagwa at State House this afternoon.
Members of the commission are University of Zimbabwe (UZ) lecturers Professors Charity Manyeruke and Lovemore Madhuku and former president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) Mrs Vimbai Nyemba, international law expert Mr Rodney Dixon QC from the United Kingdom, former Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku from Nigeria and former Chief of Defence Forces of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces General (Retired) Davis Mwamunyange.
In an interview with journalists former President Motlanthe said the committee will take into consideration views from all Zimbabweans.
“It won’t be a private thing, we will meet everybody and the Zimbabweans,” he said.
“After completing the task at hand, we will issue a statement inviting all Zimbabweans to give their views and giving them all the phone numbers so that they can be able to talk to us. We need to tackle this issue from all angles and we need the people’s voices to actually gather what really transpired .”
He added that findings would be made public once they complete their work in three months as is envisaged.
