MDC Alliance President, Nelson Chamisa ,has successfully filed his court papers today at the Constitutional Court in a bid to reverse President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s victory as declared by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week.

Chamisa is convinced that he won the popular vote ahead of the Zanu-PF leader who, according to ZEC, scrapped through with a slim margin of 50.8 percent to the plaintiff’s 44.3 percent.

Chamisa’s legal team arrived at the Constitutional Court at the eleventh hour with members of the media having been in wait for at least half a day.

Posting on his blog twitter handle, Chamisa said: “Our legal team successfully filed our court papers. We have a good case and cause!!”

In his application court challenge, Chamisa cited Mnangagwa as the first respondent, ZEC, and all other 22 presidential contestants as respondents as well.

The matter is expected to be heard within 14 days as per the constitutional provisions.

Chamisa’s legal team is led by Chris Mhike as the instructing attorney and Thabani Mpofu as the leader of the counsel.
Former minister of education David Coltart added his voice to confirm the filing of the court papers to challenge the presidential results and some constituencies.

“The Presidential petition brought in terms of section 93(1) of the Constitution has been filed with the Registrar of the Constitutional Court. It is now being served on the 23 Respondents (all the other contestants and ZEC) Copies of the petition will be posted once scanned.”
