HIT Staff Complete M.Tech Degrees From India’s Top Varsities

During a reception held at the Harare Institute of Technology’s Belvedere campus in Harare today, the university’s Vice Chancellor Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe has welcomed assistant lecturers who returned from India where they were undertaking their post graduate studies.

At part of HIT’s staff development fellowship program to enhance advanced technology skills in its tutors, the university send its teaching assistants to various Indian universities under a long standing bilateral relationship under which the fellows completed their various Master of Technology degrees.

In his address, Vice Chancellor, Engineer Quinton C. Kanhukamwe called on the fellows to embrace and apply the tenets of the the University Education 5.0 and Industry 5.0. to innovate and industrialize as the nation move towards a middle income economy by 2030.

Harare Institute of Technology’s teaching staff who returned from India this week after completing their various Master of Technology degrees at the Asian country’s top universities.

The Harare Institute of Technology is now Zimbabwe’s leading university in producing graduates in various fields of technology which include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Industrial Manufacturing, Electronic Engineering, Electronic Commerce, Financial Engineering and other diverse fields of learning.

To help Zimbabwe in its industrialization goals, HIT has also made immense progress in collaborating with leading commercial organizations such as TelOne, CBZ Bank and other training collaborations with the Zimbabwe Defense Forces.

HIT is now reaping the rewards of equipoising its teaching staff with advanced industrial knowledge obtained in India’s top universities. In 2017, twelve students from its Electronics Engineering department participated in a competition on the design and implementation of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) devices for TelOne ASDL and GPON modems. The university’s three students went on to win the competition, walking away with a USD 2000 prize.

Various local companies are now courting the Harare Institute of Technology for different collaborations in developing industrial solutions as they eye to reap benefits from the university’s rich talent in diverse technology innovations.

The Harare Institute of Technology entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with telecommunications company, Tel One in 2017. The MoU is centered on collaboration on information and communication technology (ICT) related innovations, research and commercialization activities.

The purpose of the MOU is to establish a framework for innovative collaboration between TelOne and HIT through the development and commercialization of technology relevant to TelOne as an Information and Communication Technology operator, furthering the provision of relevant real world industry experience for students, building-up of integrated solution ecosystem which addresses business needs, furthering the science involved in ICT telecommunications as well as furthering Corporate Social Responsibility through mentorship of the next generation of  technopreneurs.
