The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba has pleaded with the electorate to stop paying attention to election results being tossed and fronted on social media saying the official results should be expected starting from 1500hrs today.

Chigumba as has been expected ruled out election rigging saying the process was not flawed in any case.

Justice Chigumba was briefing the media today in the capital where she reiterated that her office has no official results as yet since vote counting is in progress and is expected to be complete today.

She advised the public to observe peace and remain calm during the period of waiting. She said the public should avoid disappointment by rushing into celebrations before official announcement as some information may be inaccurate.

Chigumba also said voter turnout was between 60 percent and 78 percent countrywide.

She however singled out Midlands province for recording the highest voter turnout amid concerns voter intimidation and vote buying as key driving factors.

Social media has been awash with election results from different corners of the country with pictures of V11 forms that were pasted outside polling stations last night doing rounds in the virtual public sphere.

Meanwhile, the country is gripped in a bated breath as anxiety mounts with the people expecting to know their political fate post 30 July harmonised polls.
