Barely 24 hours before the nomination Court sits to confirm the candidates taking part in the July 30 harmonised elections, President of Multi People’s Democratic Party (MPDPZ), Bishop Emmanuel Moyana, has pulled out from the race citing lack of resources.

Moyana’s decision comes a few days after the Zimbabwe Development Party (ZDP) led by Kisinoti Mukwazhi as well as the Voice of the People (VOP) led by Moreprcision Muzadzi pulled out of the race bemoaning the unavailability of the voters roll as an impediment to the nomination process.

Sources within the little-known party shared Moyana’s chats from the party’s group and which he confirmed that he was no longer in the running for the country’s top post.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all of us for the good work that you did in running this party from the day you were appointed as executive members. You have stood with me and the party at large and you have used your special time to attend all meetings giving very vital information to push the party business ahead.

“As the leader of MPDP Zimbabwe, I have searched long and wide for resources to finish the assignment we started as a team but I have to speak with a heavy heart this day to all leaders here that resources have not been forthcoming of late, therefore, causing us to lag behind in our meetings and rallies.

“This has put us in a very serious position that leaves us without any alternative but to withdraw our participation in the forthcoming elections as Party. I know most of us will be very disappointed in this decision that I have reached but I also want you to look at the positives that we have done so that your judgements remain balanced. it was our hope that we would field some candidates in some areas that we hoped to fare well but unfortunately, we didn’t have resources as expected to reach out the constituencies,” reads part of the message seen by 263Chat.

The source also told 263Chat that some members with the party suspected that Moyana was a Zanu-PF project, sent to spy on voters

In his long message, Moyana said he would be back in the 2023 elections to continue with his “vision”

“It is my prayer that we remain United as we approach the forthcoming elections supporting those who are pushing for true change. It is not in my Democratic right to tell you who to support as we approach the elections but definitely, change is needed. We hope to work with other political parties in making this dream a success. We will, therefore, work towards 2023 as a party to continue with our vision,” he said.
