The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance Presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa has threatened more protests across the country should government and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) fail to take heed of their electoral demands.

Addressing the crowds gathered at Africa Unity Square in the capital on Tuesday, Chamisa hinted on taking electoral protest across the country if ZEC and President Emmerson Mnangagwa do not heed to the Alliance’s electoral demands.

“This is just the beginning, we are going to do this day after day until we get the electoral reforms we want for a peaceful, fair, free and credible elections,” said Chamisa.

He warned the ruling government from rigging the elections and emphasised that the electoral reforms were supposed to be favourable and clear to all parties involved in the elections.

“This year’s election will not be rigged. We promise that these demonstration will not end in Harare, but there are plans to take it to other provinces in the next coming weeks on a date we shall advice. We will go to Bulawayo, Masvingo, Victoria Falls, Mutare among other cities unless until we agree on reforms.”

“We are prepared to go to all rural areas, in all villages and all townships. We will speak to every individual; the elderly and the young people to be part of the change this country wants,” said Chamisa.

The MDC T Acting Chairperson, Morgan Komichi weighed in saying the turn out of the protesters was just but a handful of the Alliance’s capability to set the record straight on electoral reforms across the country.

“What you see today is one tenth of our capacity, we have the capacity to spread the whole nation and all towns and townships to send our message clear,” said Mr Komichi.

The Alliance principals took turns to throw jibes at ZEC and President Mnangagwa over electoral reforms.

Transform Zimbabwe President, Jacob Ngarivhume said the Alliance is prepared to go all the way to ensure that there is a level ground for a credible elections.

“We are serious about setting aside our differences and confront the call for electoral reforms. As an Alliance we are saying no to an election without reforms, that is the message we are sending to ZEC and Mnangagwa.” said Ngarivhume.

The peaceful march saw ZANU PF breakaway members now assembled under the National Patriotic Front (NPF) joining hands with MDC Alliance and hinting on the possibility of a grand coalition.

Meanwhile, ZANU-PF is also preparing for a solidarity march tomorrow, Wednesday to counter the MDC Alliance demands as they are set to give a vote of confidence to the electoral mother body, ZEC.
