Buy Zimbabwe will from the 14th to the 15th of June hold its 8th Buy Local Summit in Gweru, an event the organizers said is an opportunity to rally the country towards a deliberate preference of locally produced goods and services.
Addressing the media in the capital today, Group Chief Executive Officer, Munyaradzi Hwengwere said the event which will be held under the theme under the theme Building Competitiveness and Retaining Domestic Preference in an Open Economy, will seek to entangle all the business opportunities and challenges prohibiting country efforts to build national competitiveness for sustained economic growth.
“The 8th summit provides an opportunity to coalesce consensus for accelerating economic development through the deliberate preference of our local goods and services.
“This year’s event will seek to entangle all the business opportunities and challenges which the country presents with a particular focus on building national competitiveness for sustained economic growth,” he said.
Hwengwere added that the main objective of the summit is to ignite accelerated economic growth through promotion and facilitation of stakeholder effort aimed at producing local goods and services for consumption locally and abroad.
“The summit’s main objectives are to establish a competitiveness pattern that will spur local production of goods and services to increase local companies’ market share in the face of foreign competition.
“To ignite accelerated economic growth through promotion and facilitation of stakeholder effort aimed at producing local goods and services for consumption locally and abroad to create employment,wealth and Zimbabwean pride.
“To discuss,explore and agree on mechanisms on curbing the current account deficit with particular focus on import substitution and local content measures.
“To promote dialogue on sourcing funding for domestic enterprises and maximizing benefits from linkages between the mining and manufacturing sectors,” added Hwengwere.
The event will be graced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa who according Hwengwere is expected to deliver the key note address and officially open the summit.
