Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa yesterday challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to participate in the five kilometres ‘Run for Change’ program to show the nation that he has the drive to run the country.

Addressing the hundreds of youths who gathered at the Alexander Sports Club for the #RunforChange event, Chamisa dared Mnangagwa to also run the five kilometers race to prove his fitness to lead the country.

“I’m not like Mnangagwa who is old, can he run like what i did today?” said Chamisa

He added that the Run for Change race will continue post elections to allow people an opportunity to interface him when he assumes the country’s number one job, adding that the program should be apolitical while cutting across ages.

“This program will continue post elections where families will be allowed to engage with their president on family days just like in other countries like Botswana and Rwanda.

“It’s a natural  and cross generational sentiment where young people gather to call for descent lives that come through employment opportunities which my next government is committed to provide,” said Chamisa.

The ‘Run for Change’ race grabbed headlines as it was graced by Chamisa’s wife Sithokozile who made her first public appearance.

Chamisa said his wife will not grab attention in politics like the First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa who he likened to the former President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace.

The event also saw former minister of Finance and Harare East aspiring Member of Parliament, Tendai Biti, completing the 5km race which he said was meant to send a message to government officials who he said are too old to run the country.

Meanwhile, Chamisa applauded the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for diligently executing their duty by escorting the participants during the run saying, “this is the kind of the police that we want in the new government, they did a good job and we want to thank them for that.”
