Visiting Equatorial Guinea President and Africa’s long-serving leader, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasongo, who is on a two-day official state visit to the country is set to visit former president and longtime friend, Robert Mugabe at his Blue Roof mansion in Borrowdale tomorrow, 263Chat can reveal.

Mbasogo who jetted in Zimbabwe this afternoon, was met at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Aiport by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and other senior government officials.

According to his itinerary, Mbasogo will visit Mugabe at his home tomorrow morning before meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the state house. The two will also hold meetings to discuss issues of bilateral interests.

Nguema is a long-standing friend of the deposed Mugabe. Their relationship became stronger following Zimbabwe’s interception of a plane that was heading to Equatorial Guinea where a group led by a former British army officer Simon Mann was arrested after making a stop over in Harare.

Mugabe and Nguema are synonymous with iron fist rule, characterised by disregard for freedom of expression, assembly and association as well as human rights abuses, which include torture and abductions of opposition party members.

Nguema has been the leader of Equatorial Guinea since 1979 having seized power in a military coup against his uncle.
