Movement for Democratic Change has fired vice President, Thokozani Khupe, Organising Secretary Abednigo Bhebhe and Spokesperson Obert Gutu on allegations of undermining constitutional organs and putting the name of the party into disrepute.

In a statement released soon after the national council meeting in Harare today, MDC-T Deputy National Chairperson, Morgan Komichi said more than two thirds of national council members- the party’s highest decision making body between congress voted to have Khupe, Gutu and Bhebhe expelled from the party.

“On VP Khupe, the national council noted the efforts for engagement made by the party President and the fact that VP Khupe remained stubborn, obdurate, intransigent and spurned all party efforts to address her grievances as she continued to hold illegal meetings and partake in unconstitutional activities, putting the party into disrepute and undermining the constitutional organs of the party.

“The national council therefore resolved, by more than the mandatory two thirds of the vote that VP Khupe be removed from the party in terms of the party constitution,” said Komichi.

He added that the national council also agreed to have Khupe and Bhebhe recalled from parliament.

“The national council further resolved that those leaders that have ceased to be members of the party but who are in Parliament, in particular VP Khupe and Organizing Secretary Abednigo Bhebhe, be recalled with immediate effect,” said Komichi.

The national council also accepted the resignation of National Chairperson, Lovemore Moyo, who officially informed the party of his decision to discontinue his association with the movement.

Komichi also noted that the party had received applications and CVs from prospective candidates for this year’s harmonised elections with the selection already underway.

The party also resolved to conduct intercession prayers every Monday and Friday at the headquarters until elections.

Khupe was not reachable for a comment while Gutu’s number was busy.
