Belarus Sets Sight On US$1 Billion Investment In Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe and Belarus have announced a partnership agreement to implement projects in the areas of energy, agriculture and education, Chief Presidential Affairs of Belarus (Vice President), General Viktor Sheiman has said.

Addressing the media in the capital on Thursday after signing a US$43 million contract to supply agricultural equipment, General-Colonel Sheiman who is part of the seven member delegation expressed optimism of serious dynamic federation between his country and Zimbabwe.

“l am hoping to do a very serious dynamic federation between Belarus and Zimbabwe and we are ready to carry many projects in Zimbabwe including mining projects, agriculture, supplying of drugs and many other projects.

“Also, supply energy is going to be our special project in Zimbabwe and we want to work as partners for all these projects for the benefit of Zimbabweans,” he said.

He added that he will send specialists from the East European country to implement the signed projects in Zimbabwe.

“l promise to send a thousand of my specialists to implement anything that we are going to sign and also l welcome Zimbabweans to use our Universities for future development of the country.

“Right now we signed a contract for agriculture for US$43 million to supply all agricultural equipment including tractors and other equipment to the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“Apart from the agricultural contract ,we signed for forestry equipment to use for timber companies in Zimbabwe for the benefit of the forestry industry and he amount is around US$15 million.

“My goal is to build a US$1 billion trade between the two countries in future since we are going to construct some dams, irrigation, industrial enterprises.

“We are aware that Zimbabwe is a landlocked country so it needs a lot of drugs and logistic companies and that is also one of the projects we want to do,” added Sheiman.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Major General Dr. Sibusiso Moyo the government will soon announce to the nation outcomes of deliberations made with the visiting Belarus delegation.

“There were a lot of deliberations which took place, a lot of commitments some of the agreements have been signed in the morning and some of them are going to be continued to be discussed and will advise the nation by the end of day tomorrow (Friday),” said Moyo.

In 2015, Zimbabwe and Belarus signed a US$150 million agreement for the supply of equipment for road and dam construction, mining, agriculture, municipal among other areas.
