Zimbabwe’s First lady Auxillia Mnangagwa has stepped down as the Member of Parliament for Chirumhanzi Zibagwe, a  move which President Mnangagwa says paves way for the First Lady to effectively focus on  her role as the country’s first wife.

Speaking to hundreds of Zanu PF supporters during a rally in Chirumhanzu Zibabgwe, where the first lady  had occupied the  parliamentary seat for 3 years  President Emmerson Mnangagwa  said it was time for his wife to pass on the seat to someone.

“You had your mother Mrs Mnangagwa who was your Member of Parliament when l was a boarder jumper. Honestly  she faced many difficulties during my boarder jumper era  but she remained strong.

“When she became the first lady of the Republic she told me that she wanted to focus with her duties as the first lady and leave her Chirumhanzi seat and we agreed, so she is leaving the seat as from today and focus on being a first lady and she is now an MP to every Zimbabwean,” he said.

The President urged Chirumhanzu Zibabgwe residents to remain resolute, continue supporting the party and elect someone who will stand with them (Chirumhanzu residents).

“So it is now your task to elect another mother or father who will take the seat. But that does not mean that she is no longer your mother, she will come here to fulfill her dreams and she promised me that she is going to finish all projects she started during her period, said President Mnagagwa adding that the First lady was not ready to face people of Chirumhanzu as she could not stand the pain of saying goodbye.

“You have all the right to invite her to come and address you here at any time as she used to do but for now she is going to visit every province as the first lady, “said Mnangagwa.

Auxillia Mnangagwa, who is the wife of President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa was elected to become a Member of Parliament representing Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe constituency. The parliamentary seat she currently occupies fell vacant following Cde Mnangagwa’s elevation to the post of Vice President that same year.

It was then that Mrs Mnangagwa ran unopposed in the Zanu-PF primary elections after two other contestants pulled out of the race.

Mrs Mnangagwa’s sudden elevation to Parliament then left many wondering whether she had other political credentials besides being wife to the country’s Vice-President.
