Harare Sweats over New Dispensation Demands

City of Harare has rallied residents and stakeholders to embrace its 100 day Rapid Results Project and develop the city in line with the demands of the new political dispensation.

Speaking during the Rapid Results Project implementation launch in Harare on Wednesday, Acting Town Clerk, Engineer Hosiah Chisango said during the 100 days ending 19 April, they are targeting to rehabilitate street lights within the Central Business District, increasing the number of High Master Tower  lights, road rehabilitation and repairing sewer pipes among other critical developments.

“We really need to put our shoulders on the wheel and work hard as the new dispensation is demanding peak performance from all especially the public sector.

“We need to rehabilitate 1124 street lights  the Central Business District and to increase  the number of High Master Tower  lights from the current 712 to 812  by 19 April .

“Running concurrently with the fourth phase of the RRI are the quick wins which are also implementing in the next 100 days .

“These are under the following thematic area, road rehabilitation, decongestion of the city centre, review of Harare combination master plan and city centre, review of Harare combination master plan, repair of sewer pipes on block I of Mbare flats, database clean up, completion of Hopley clinic and youth centre and the completion of Kuwadzana library,” said Chisango.

He added that the city is working to increase refuse collection coverage and to develop an integrated solid waste management plan.

“Sanitation 2 has two goals that is to increase refuse collection coverage from the current 65% to 80% by 19 April 2018 and development of the integrated solid waste management plan and these two speaks directly to the health of the people.

“We also need a roll out of investment policies and management of leases,to reduce operational costs by 10% l  and to increase revenue collection by 5 % from the current 65% to 70 % by 19 April 2018.

“We also need to establish a framework for the bus transit system by 19 April.

“His Excellency the President Emmerson Mnangagwa encouraged the population to demand transparent service from government funds and that includes us so we have to deliver,” said Chisango.
