ZIBAWU Bemoans Women and Young Workers’ Vulnerability

Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers Union and its affiliates have urged workers come together as collective as workers to form one big union that will give a big political and collective voice for real changes within work places towards 2018.

In an interview with 263Chat, Director of organizing in the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) management sector, Michael Kandukutu said they want to unite as workers in the financial sector to protect and advance their interest as a united front.

“We want to recruit and be able to protect and advance the rights and interest of all those workers that are coming up in the different sectors that we have noted.

“The character of the majority of these sectors that we have identified is that by and large it is employing women and youths and these are people who are very vulnerable particularly when it comes to flexibility, fixed term contracts of work and we are saying for us as a union, those are the sectors that require the assistance of the union.

“When we role out our recruitment campaign, we are simply saying that we are not going to leave any worker within the financial service sector without being recruited and unionized and it is our intention to achieve if possible a closed shop in terms of trade union membership,” said Kandukutu.
