Civic groups under the banner of People’s Will Coalition will on Friday bring together over 4000 citizens in Harare for a National People’s Convention aimed at deliberating on the direction the country is taking following ushering in of a new dispensation brought by the resignation of President Robert Mugabe.
Addressing the media in Harare on Thursday, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition regional director, Joy Mabenge said four thousand delegates are expected to converge in Harare to come up with a way forward for the country following Mugabe’s resignation.
“The event will take place at the Harare International Conference Centre tomorrow the 24th of November from 0800 to 1700 hrs where an estimated four thousand delegates are expected to attend.
“It is the role of the citizen to ensure the on going transition captures the aspirations of the Zimbabwean people beyond the change of the head of state but to also address the underlying causes of socio economic and political crises which have resulted in the current status quo.
“The overall objective of this urgent convening is to build on the gains of the transition in order to catalyze an inclusive,people driven transition to sustainable economic development and democracy in Zimbabwe,” said Mabenge.
He added that the meeting is being organised to allow citizens an opportunity to meet and express their views on the direction the country is taking especially now that there is a new dispensation.
“Citizens from all walks of life will gather to express their views in an attempt to actively shape the direction that the country must take in the new dispensation.
“The platform is cognizant of the fact that society is made up of varying sectorial interests, fears and aspirations.
“Previous and present challenges in Zimbabwe will guide the discussions,the convention will seek to do the following creation of a national platform for multi stakeholder dialogue and engagement on the meaning,implications and collective responses to the transition.
“We are therefore extending an invitation to all Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation,race,gender,ethnicity or religion to come and help contribute in setting the ground for a sustained program of citizen engagement and participation in Zimbabwe’s present and future developments,” added Mabenge.
