Gweru Sports Club has been robbed of a young talented player, Denver ‘Kito’ Chidindi, who died in South Africa where he was advancing his rugby career and education in sports.

Chidindi is said to have succumbed to head seizures. He was 24.

Gweru Sports Club players and the rugby fraternity as a whole took to social media expressing their shock and conveying their condolences on the untimely death of the young athlete.

Gweru Sports Club Chairman, Charles Gwanzura, who was also the late’s Uncle, said the club has lost a great player who will be sorely missed.

“We have been robbed of a young rugby guru who still had lots to offer with such talent and dedication that only comes once in a while.

“We have lost a true friend and the pain is unbearable, I say farewell Kito. May your soul rest in peace,” Gwanzura said.

Born in August 1993 Chidindi began his sporting career at Gweru’s Cecil John Rhodes Primary School where he was named sportsman of the year from grade five to seven before getting a scholarship at Churchill Boys High School for his sporting achievements.

At Churchill High, Chidindi was the school team cricket captain at the same time playing rugby up to his sixth form, after which, he played club rugby for Police Defenders in Harare, then Gweru Sports Club.
