Island Hospice and Healthcare has recorded a net operating deficit of $17 370 for the year ended 30 June 2017 due to exchange losses in project funds and a decrease in donor support.

The Group’s Treasurer, Clever Matigimu said the year under review has been one of the most challenging years as their local regular donors have continued to decrease in numbers.

“The year under review has been one of the most challenging years both socially and economically as our local regular donors have continued to decrease in numbers due to the prevailing economic situations.

“There has also been a significant decrease in funding from the International donors which points to donor fatigue, change of donor priority and global economic uncertainty due to the global politics shifts,” said Matigimu.

He added that the organization continues to operate on a going concern basis despite the reduced funding from international donors.

“The organization continues to operate on a going concern basis despite the reduced funding from international donors.

“We had a number of our major projects ending during the year, Big lottery UK, Better Health for older persons funded by UK AID and African Hospice Initiative,” he said.

However Matigimu said  the organization has managed to secure a three year £149.650.00 grant from Positive Action for children Fund, another two year $88 978 grant from True Colors Trust valued whilst they managed to retain one of their major traditional donors Oak Foundation which is contributing $80 000 a year.
