Olama Hearts, a Harare based musical group from the Music Crossroads Academy shrugged off stiff competition from nine other groups to emerge winners at the Provincial competitions of the Chibuku Road to Fame at a packed Club Manake in Ruwa on Saturday.

Groups from Music Crossroads Academy dominated the competitions but it was never short of diversity as each group exhibited its own unique style.

The winning group, Olama Hearts walked away $500 richer, followed by Afro Jam and sungura outfit, Naka Sugar Express, who received $300 and $200 respectively.

Olama Hearts leader, Simbarashe Paridzira was elated at winning the competitions.

To him booking a place in the Chibuku Road to Fame finals means going back to the drawing board and working even harder to land the national crown.

“I am happy with the way we performed today, we showed character, though we did not come here aiming to win.

“Ours was a desire to just use the platform to showcase our talent, but now we are the champions and we are going back to the drawing board and aim for the national prize” said Paridzira.

He added that the idea behind the formation of the group was just to showcase their talents but the victory at the Provincial competitions had given them the edge to push for greater things.

“I formed this group this year as a platform to show case ourselves to the world,” Said Paridzira.

Multi award winning poet Albert Nyati, the Queen of Jazz music Edith WeUtonga and the best lead guitarist Clive “Mono” Mukundu were judges for the competition.
