Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) recently conducted a clean up exercise in the central business district of Harare to raise awareness against littering as well as marketing the institution.
Speaking to 263Chat on the sidelines of the clean-up along First Street, ZEGU Community Development Officer Fungai Mazorodze said the clean-up was the university’s way of raising awareness against littering as well as giving back to the community.
“We are holding this clean-up campaign because firstly we are a Christian University and we understand the relationship between cleanliness and Godliness. A look at our Bindura campus will reflect on why we are so particular about living in a clean environment.
“We are doing this in Harare because it is the face of the nation, so we are adding a glimpse to the face of the nation.
“We are also doing this because we want people especially in Harare to know who we are, so it is a way of marketing our University. We believe that in the way of marketing, we cannot just come and tell people about us without adding value to the people whom we are targeting,” said Mazorodze.
ZEGU’s gesture comes at a time when the City of Harare is struggling to contain littering problems in the city.
“We are also helping the city achieve its aim of being a world class city by 2025. Some of the necessary things to look at are cleanliness and we have moved in to help in that regard,” said Mazorodze.
She added that ZEGU is mulling having a campus in Harare hence the new students will benefit from a clean and litter free environment.
Mazorodze noted that the clean-up exercise will continue In other parts of the country.
