Commander Defence Forces, Constantino Guvheya Nyikadzino Chiwenga has revealed that he wanted to be a Priest in the Roman Catholic Church but dropped after only doing his seminary for a few years to join the liberation struggle.
General Chiwenga was addressing mourners during the funeral wake of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Permanent Secretary and Presidential spokesperson, George Charamba’s wife, Idaishe Olivia who passed on at West-End hospital over the weekend.
General Chiwenga visited the late hours before her demise at West-End hospital.
“I wanted to be a Roman Catholic priest together with (Regis) Chikowore (Principal Director in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services). Chikowore finished his course but I did not.”
“I am a devoted Christian. So, l called Chikowore when l realised, Mrs Charamba was slowly losing her battle. I reminded her parents that
That dust (will return) to dust. We prayed, Charamba was there and I gave them my rosary and l hope the Lord has put her in a peaceful resting place.”
Mrs Charamba succumbed to liver complications.
She was 45.
“One way or the other, we will all meet our fate. No matter your standing in society, we should sacrifice at least a day per week to worship the Lord. Some of us left full-time ministry because of the liberation war.”
