A Roman Catholic Priest, Father Fidelis Mukonori has called for the arrest of government officials involved in corrupt dealings castigating judges who favor those implicated while hailing the former Chief Justice, Godfrey Chidyausiku as a man who did not want to see rot in the judicial system.

Officiating at the farewell mass for the late former Chief Justice at Chishawasha mission on Friday, Father Mukonori said Chidyausiku was a man of principles who stood up for the rights of people.
“It cannot be ignored that the late chief Justice was a good man. He was a God fearing man who always wanted to see a just society.
“He was someone who did not want to see a rot in the judicial system. He was a man who always wanted to see people strive spiritually,” said Father Mukonori.
He urged the judicial system to follow in the footsteps of the departed Chidyausiku.
“It is my plea to everyone who is in the judicial system to be like Godfrey (Chidyausiku). Take a leaf from the good works that he did and represented,” said Father Mukonori.
In a satirical dig supposedly aimed at the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Professor Jonathan Moyo who was recently accused of abusing Zimdef funds, the clergyman called for the arrest of corrupt government officials who are often untouchable saying they are destroying the country.
“Chidyausiku transformed the judicial system but it’s not enough. We have some judges who are favoring senior government officials. We do not want that in our system. We want those implicated in any scandal to be arrested and face jail just as any citizen would.
“We hear stories of stories where a senior official is said to have committed a crime but nothing is done to have them incarcerated,” Father Mukonori added.

Minister of Defence, Sydney Sekeremai who was also present at the mass hailed the former Chief Justice as a humble man who worked tirelessly to see justice in the judicial system and the community.
Chidyausiku was declared a national hero and will be laid to rest at the national shrine on Saturday.
Other top government officials who attended the mass include Senate President, Edna Madzongwe, Police commissioner Augustine Chihuri, Zimbabwe National Army Commander, General Constantine Chiwenga and many others.
