Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume has launched a voter education campaign aimed at convincing Zimbabweans to shun political parties that use violence to gain votes in next year’s parliamentary election.
The campaign which was launched last week at Hopley will be spread to parts of the country.
In an interview with 263Chat, Ngarivhume said his campaign would attempt to convince voters to “free themselves from violence, oppression and tyranny”.
Ngarivhume added the party will continue to articulate its position relating to the nomination of candidates, assisted voting and postal voting .
“Zimbabwe cannot afford another disputed election in 2018. All patriotic Zimbabweans have grown weary of the prevailing political repression and socio-economic decay. It is incumbent upon us, as Zimbabweans, to chart a new democratic dispensation for our beloved motherland.
” We want to encourage youths to register in order to participate for general harmonized 2018 elections” Ngarivhume explained.
The Party President said there is need a massive campaign in voter education as most people are not aware of the Bio metric Voter Registration (BVR).
He highlighted that the voters will have to understand the importance of voter registration. And this not an obvious matter when the primary beneficiaries of the voter registration.
Meanwhile, if voters are not prepared or motivated to participate in the electoral process, then questions may arise about the legitimacy, representativeness, and responsiveness of elected leaders and institutions. At the same time, voter education is a much focused undertaking. process.
