Gweru City Council could be flying blindly as the local authority has been operating without a strategic plan, two months into 2017, the new city Town Clerk has revealed.
Elizabeth Gwatipedza, the new Gweru City Town Clerk says the city’s strategic plan expired last year and is currently operating without one adding that they are engaging an international non-governmental organisation to help them come up with a new plan of action for 2017.
“Currently we don’t have a strategic plan for the city, the plan expired in 2016, meaning to say that how we are going to see this city it is an effect of planning.
“To do that, I have convinced GIZ (a German NGO) to partner with us towards the development of a strategic plan,” she said.
Gwatipedza said the strategic plan development could take almost a week beginning on the 20th of February, adding that the reason for the delays was hearings for the suspended councilors which were currently underway since the beginning of the year.
“I think you are well aware that we had hearings two weeks back for the suspended councilors and so we thought that it would be ideal to develop a strategic plan together with the councilors who are coming back,” she added.
Meanwhile Gwatipedza said with the torrential rains currently prevailing, the city failed to clear the drain systems in time and is now only doing firefighting, attending to where problems surface.
